The Linnaeus Consulting team boasts over 70 years of consumer marketing experience. Over this time we have worked with a wide range of brands in the mail order, travel, financial services, leisure, charity and mobile sectors.

We have an in-depth understanding of the traditional database and direct marketing channels such as, direct mail, inserts, space advertising, DRTV and more latterly email. We are now adding significant value to these by combining them with the rich data now being generated by consumer’s interaction via the online and mobile channels.

Mike Fisher - Director :

After graduating in Mathematics and Economics from Strathclyde University, Mike went on to help design an expert system for a Nuclear power station. After the brief interlude with programming, he joined GUS home shopping in the Research Department, before finally finding his true vocation in the Marketing Department.

Using his statistical and programming skills Mike quickly became immersed in connecting customer behaviour to direct marketing. He then moved across to the agency side as Database Director at Colleagues Direct Marketing with responsibility for Data.

In 2000, Mike co-founded Entire, a direct marketing strategy company, delivering 8 years of consecutive growth, He then became involved in the creation of a new company - Linnaeus Consulting, Mike has fine tuned his talents to enable clients to grasp digital data and behavioural marketing further.

When not at his desk, you will find Mike either on a short board riding a wave, or being dragged along a hill side by a large kite!

Ryan Shannon - Director :

Having graduated with a Business Studies degree Ryan chose to build a career in Direct Marketing. Over 20 years later Ryan is a committed direct marketing practitioner who truly believes in the power of consumer insight and dm techniques to help brands profitably engage and communicate with customers. Six years at Experian gave Ryan a thorough grounding in the use of data in marketing.

Ryan then spent 4-years as Board Director responsible for Client Services, at Colleagues Direct Marketing, before in 2000 joining the other 2 Directors of Linnaeus to create and build the full service direct marketing agency, Entire. During this time he added a thorough appreciation of what the creative and broader media mix contributes to successful dm.

In 2008 Ryan co-founded Linnaeus, and is looking forward to bringing all the dm experience and skills to work with brands to maximise the impact and return now offered by online and mobile channels in communication with consumers.

Over the course of his career Ryan has enjoyed working with brands as diverse as ORANGE, ASOS, Barclaycard, The White Company, General Accident (now Aviva), NEXT Directory, Vernons Pools, and Tourism Ireland.

With my playing days well behind me I now get my fix of rugby (union) from supporting Bristol Rugby. I keep fit with regular visits to the gym. I also enjoy skiing, cycling and golf. Travel is important to me, affording the opportunity to have truly memorable experiences, meet new people and sample marketing (sometimes fantastic, sometimes dreadful) from very different markets and cultures!

Ian Stockley - Non Executive Director :

After graduating from the London School of Economics Ian trained as a classical singer at the Royal Academy of Music. On reaching 30, a more stable income was secured when he moved into direct marketing and discovered a new passion in developing better customer communication on the back of in-depth consumer insight.

This was honed during his time at Reader's Digest where he ended his 7 years as Director of their UK Music and Video businesses.

He then moved across to the agency side as Board Director at Colleagues Direct Marketing with responsibility for Strategy, Planning and Media. In 2000, Ian founded Entire, delivering 8 years of consecutive growth.

He then started Linnaeus Consulting with the original co-founders of Entire, adding value for clients by helping them understand and visualise how consumers engage with mobile, travel, leisure and retail brands through mobile and digital channels. UK brands with whom Ian has worked in developing marketing strategy based on in-depth consumer insight include Littlewoods Shop Direct, Tourism Ireland, Boden, The White Company, Next Directory, Lombok, JD Sports, Vernons Pools and ASOS. Ian has worked with the Linnaeus proposition for mobile brands in the Asia Pacific and MENA regions.

Carl Linnaeus - The Original Segmentor :

Carl von Linné (May 23, 1707 – January 10, 1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist, who laid the foundations for the modern scheme of binomial nomenclature. He is known as the father of modern taxonomy, and is also considered one of the fathers of modern ecology.

In the 1740s he was sent on several journeys through Sweden to find and classify plants and animals. In the 1750s and 60s he continued to collect and classify animals, plants, and minerals, and published several volumes. At the time of his death, he was widely renowned throughout Europe as one of the most acclaimed scientists of the time.
